In 1907 French Chemist Eugéne Schueller formulated the very first hair dye containing synthetic colorants, which he sold to hairdressers. He called it "Aureole", meaning halo or birght circle of light. Within two years, the company he founded became L'Oréal and the rest, as they say, is history.
